Course of Study: Science:

  The science standards include designing and completing an advanced scientific investigation; applying the concepts of emergent properties, feedback, subsystems, equilibria, and unpredictability to a complex system; interviewing science professionals; exploring the scientific and contemporary aspects of contemporary problems and analyzing and evaluating proposed solutions; analyzing the structure and function of DNA; explaining the role of exposure to certain factors that may increase the rate of mutations or diseases; applying knowledge and understanding of chemical and physical reactions; describing changes and predicting by products of nuclear reactions; identifying and predicting natural hazards; evaluating scientific theories on the origin of the universe; explaining the geochemical cycle through movement of matter. Reading and writing standards are incorporated into science courses.
